Suite Donizettiana

A six movement arrangement, without voices, of music from Donizetti's Elisir d'amore.
Preludio  A pastoral flavor with a middle section for solo clarinet and horn.
Scena  A waltz like character alternating with an exuberant country dance.
Scherzino  The middle section is dominated by a clarinet solo.
Concertino  For solo violin and reduced orchestra.
Romanza  This is the famous tenor aria Una furtiva lagrima transcribed for oboe solo with the original harp part cued in the lower strings.
Finale  This is in two sections, the first, an elegaic Larghetto highlighting the woodwind, and the second, an exciting Allegro Vivace to conclude.
 
 

Sursum Corda, op. 11

Elgar's original op. 11 Sursum Corda was written with organ but without woodwinds. This arrangement removes the organ and transcribes its part to a full woodwind section.

A three movement arrangement, without voices, of music from Puccini's La Boheme. The Souvenir links various scenes in Acts I, II and IV allowing for their respective keys but without any alteration to Puccini's superb orchestral writing.
The Lovers  This includes the whole of the scene in which Mimi and Rudolfo meet.
Street Scene Musetta's Waltz is the centerpiece of this movement that leads into the soldier's band music as they patrol the ramparts of Paris.
Addio This opens with the duet between Rudolfo and Marcello followed by the very moving closing pages of the opera.

Six movements arranged and orchestrated from excerpts of Mozart's opera Idomeneo.
Overture 
Concertante  This includes the vocal line allocated to the clarinet with Mozart's original obligati for the other woodwind instruments.
Drama and Aria for viola or cello  The Drama for full orchestra leads into an aria for either a solo viola or cello interwoven with Mozart's original pizzicati in the upper strings with the woodwind in thirds and sixths.
Aria for flute  No. 26 Aria, for flute and strings.
Arietta for oboe  Originally a serene choral movement, includes a middle section for solo oboe.
Marcia  The exuberant Marcia concludes the suite with much woodwind interplay and the trumpets and drums adding their distinctive Mozartean colour.

Three movements arranged from Elgar's Op. 4 originally for violin and piano. The composer's original bowings for violin have been maintained, though now distributed between first and second violin.
Idylle  Dedicated to a young lady whom he met while on holiday in Scotland (a romantic idyll?) whose initials were also E.E.
Pastourelle  Has the feel of the countryside with it's undulating 6/8 rhythm.
Virelai  An early example of Elgar's fondness for enigmas! Virelai was a style of French lyrical poetry yet this piece has no text but the dedication consequently was to a Malvern friend in French.

This Chaconne was incorporated in two Partitas as well as the Serenata Parnasso in Festa. It opens majestically and develops exuberantly before a calmer interlude in the minor key.
