Passacaglia in d minor
| Instrumentation | Full orchestra. |
| Length | approx. 15 min. |
| Difficulty | Quite easy; however one passage for the flute a bit difficult. |
| Comments | A concert work for full orchestra. One variation (with snare drum marching cadence) is a melodic derivative of The Girl I Left behind Me; another quotes the Afro-American tune,Follow the Drinkin' Gourd. The thematic material in the first variation appears near the end of the work as the subject of a fugue, which builds to a closing group featuring upper woodwinds over a ground bass. The work ends on the dominant, solo bass pizz. pianissimo. |
